Tentative curriculum - International Outreach Camp Armenia 2008
The first day of camp will be spent forming teams and getting to know each other. For the next nine of the next ten days the students will take classes in the following areas:
Civic Leadership: The goal of this course will be to enhance participants' awareness of how civil society works, the role of leaders and leadership in civil society and how to make a positive difference in civil society. Students will implement small projects within the campsite and design projects for their home communities. A project fair will allow students to share the ideas they have designed.
Creative Skills: participants will learn critical and creative thinking skills and use these skills to present and learn about cultures through a variety of expressions such as art, music, and games. The capstone of this course will be a cultural fair.
Country Studies: students will study the culture, history, geography, the role of one of eight countries in today's global community as well as a global issue. Students will represent their country at a Model UN event, the capstone of this class.
The Seminar: participants will use this time for guided preparation for their capstone events learning the history of the UN and specific procedures for debate, YES program guidelines and mini-cultural events.
Activities will increase the capacity of participants to develop curriculum, team, and program design and management skills for long term sustainability. The participants will work to improve their English language skills during the camp so that they can confidently participate in the global community. The leaders will model positive attitude, behavior and problem-solving skills to increase the self-confidence of participants so that they can initiate change. Classes and clubs will also be offered in music, language, running and yoga. Participants will be encouraged to share their individual skills and talents by leading their own classes.
