CREATIVITY AND LEADERSHIP COURSES

The project was designed as a two-day workshop on creative civic leadership with a strong focus on team-building. Students were split into groups and encouraged to plan a social project that would be put into place within the several months after the project. 10 students participated in this project

HUMAN RIGHTS WORKSHOP

Olga Anikina planned a series of Human Rights workshops for students. The goal was to educate students about Human Rights – raise their general knowledge and consciousness and encourage them to plan projects to extend this new knowledge to others.

IOC 2007 – INTELLIGENT, ORIGINAL, CREATIVE

This project was designed to create a film about IOC 2007. Students planned to use this film as a resource to teach others the skills they learned when they attended the camp program. The students filmed classes, team activities, social time and interviews with staff and participants as a way to ensure viewers understand the whole program and not just focus on a single aspect of the camp.

TERNOPIL, Ukraine

ENGLISH CLUB

Thirteen students attended a weekly after-school English club designed to make English fun and easy. The team leaders have been asked to continue the project. Some of the pupils didn’t speak English very well at all and it was sometimes difficult to work with pupils who had different levels of speaking abilities. The leaders sometimes had to be flexible about the day of the meetings as students developed conflicts in their schedules.

BRIGHTER LIVES IN THE RETIREMENT HOME

This project was designed to advertise the retirement home and plan a celebration with the residents there. Children prepared cards for the 180 people who live in the retirement home, pupils prepared a concert and students prepared food for the day. The project also provided radios so that the retirees would have ongoing entertainment and news after this visit ended. The advertisements were intended to inform people about the retirement home, the need to provide financial assistance and the need for visitors and moral support for these elderly residents.

INTER-CITY LEADERSHIP SEMINARS

This project team created a leadership seminar in Ternopil, Kharkiv, Kyiv and Mykolayiv to expand the leadership skills of students. Participants were asked to identify a problem they see in their lives and communities and to take the first step in solving that problem before leaving the seminar. The leaders created a strong team environment that encouraged students to work together and share their resources in accomplishing their tasks.
